West Ham’s long-term hunt for Jonjo Shelvey could be concluded this summer, according to Sunday’s reports.

According to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday – via HITC Sport – West Ham are set to sign Shelvey from Newcastle in the summer.

West Ham are plotting a fresh move for Shelvey and Newcastle are ready to let him leave for £20m.

This report adds that Rafa Benitez blocked the Hammers’ move in January but is now willing to let him leave.

According to The London Evening Standard, Shelvey was West Ham’s top target if Pedro Obiang completed a £10m move to Fiorentina.

With West Ham still looking to strengthen their midfield next summer, Shelvey could finally complete his move to West Ham.

Romford-born midfielder Shelvey grew up in East London and supported the Irons as a boy. And he also spent time in the academy before continuing his development at London neighbours Charlton Athletic.

Since leaving the Addicks, the 27-year-old has played for Liverpool, Blackpool, Swansea City and Newcastle, amassing over 300 senior career appearances.

But this has been a frustrating season for Shelvey, who last played for the Magpies over a month ago due to injuries and the form of Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden.

The six cap England international is rated as an exciting playmaker when fit and firing and West Ham are hoping to see him return to his best form if he joins.
