This week has been filled with lows for West Ham but a more optimistic outlook could be on the horizon. Here are the latest transfer rumours (as of Friday 12th July).
Marko Arnautovic has left the building. The Austrian striker joins Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee after requesting to leave for the second time since January.
Players linked with West Ham
Arnautovic’s departure stepped up West Ham’s pursuit of Maxi Gomez but he is now heading to Valencia instead. The deal is off as West Ham and Celta Vigo failed to negotiate a payment plan (London Evening Standard).
Sebastien Haller is now West Ham’s top target. The Hammers will now go all out for the Frenchman, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt (L’Equipe).
Bournemouth star Callum Wilson is another target. The England international, 27, is a proven Premier League goalscorer but the Cherries want £60m for him (London Evening Standard).
Another report claims that West Ham will miss out on Wilson but have been offered Mario Balotelli. The hot-headed Italian striker is a free agent after leaving Marseille (Mirror).
Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, who was on loan at Chelsea last year, is a surprise name linked. The Argentina international is a loan target for the Irons (Gianluca Di Marzio).
One striker that West Ham might miss out on is Salomon Rondon. Dalian Yifang have triggered the 29-year-old’s release clause and he could team up with ex-Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez in China (The Times).
Moving away from strikers, two top European wingers have been linked. One is Ivan Perisic, of Inter Milan, who wants to move to England (FC Inter News).
The other is Florian Thauvin. This deal for the France international would reportedly involve Javier Hernandez moving in the opposite direction, plus a £36m fee to Marseille (Tutto Mercato Web).
Finally, Mexican defender Edson Alvarez is a target for Wolves, West Ham and Ajax. The 21-year-old has just won the Gold Cup with his country (Record).
West Ham kicked off their pre-season with a 3-2 friendly win over SCR Altach. Carlos Sanchez and Michail Antonio put West Ham 2-0 up in the first half but Altach levelled things up with a goal either side of half-time.
The winner came via Issa Diop, who headed in from a Jack Wilshere cross. There were debuts for goalkeepers Roberto and David Martin, as well as 45-minute comebacks for Winston Reid and Andriy Yarmolenko.
