West Ham have received somewhat of a boost today, with FC Inter News claiming that Gabriel Barbosa would prefer a return to Europe rather than joining Flamengo on a permanent deal.
The 23-year-old has been on loan with the Brazilian side from Inter Milan since January, and he has been in electric form.
Barbosa, affectionately knows as ‘Gabigol’, banged in 31 goals in 38 games for Flamengo.
The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that West Ham and Crystal Palace are preparing £25 million bids for the South American. But Flamengo want him on a permanent deal too.
So the news that he prefers a switch back to Europe will be a welcome boost for the Hammers.
They are in desperate need of another established striker to provide more competition for Sebastien Haller.
And if the Hammers manage to sign Gabigol for around £25 million, it could end up being a really significant piece of business for the east London outfit.
The Brazilian has the potential to go one and become on of the very best. And he would undoubtedly be a real star at West Ham.
