Over the past few weeks, West Ham have been linked with a number of players. But one particular transfer plan has become apparent.
It seems that West Ham are planning to take advantage of cash-strapped Marseille’s financial situation. With the Ligue 1 club forced to sell after failing to reach Europe, West Ham could be the destination for one or more players.
Three Marseille players are currently being linked with West Ham. But who are Boubacar Kamara, Morgan Sanson and Kevin Strootman? We take a look…
Who is Boubacar Kamara?
According to trusted West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee, Marseille defender Kamara has been scouted by West Ham. The Irons are looking at Ligue 1 players and Kamara has been watched.
The 19-year-old is already a first-team regular despite still being a teenager. Operating at centre-back or left-back, Kamara has played more than 50 first-team games for Marseille.
Last season, Kamara played 36 times, including 31 Ligue 1 games and five Europa League outings. The France U20 international has just been in action for his country at the U20 World Cup too.
Marseille rate Kamara highly but might be forced to sell him. If West Ham sign him, the idea will be to pair Kamara with fellow French youngster Issa Diop as a long-term centre-back partnership.
Who is Morgan Sanson?
The latter claims that it would cost West Ham over £30m to sign Sanson. But the 24-year-old midfielder is highly rated and could be a shrewd purchase if the price is lowered.
Sanson played 37 games last season in a central midfield or holding midfield role, scoring five times and providing four assists. He now has played more than 100 times for Marseille, as well as over 100 times for Montpellier and 29 times for Le Mans.
The former France U21 starlet is a ball-playing central midfielder. He could be a like-for-like Manuel Lanzini replacement if the Argentine playmaker departs.
Who is Kevin Strootman?
Marseille reportedly offered ex-Roma midfielder Strootman on loan to Everton, Manchester United and West Ham (Sky Sports News). And Strootman backed this up by telling Corriere dello Sport that Marseille want to shift his big wages.
The Netherlands international is an experienced central midfielder. He has played for Sparta Rotterdam, FC Utrecht, PSV, Roma and Marseille, racking up a total of over 350 career appearances.
But Marseille’s financial plight means that high-earners like Strootman need to be shipped. With four years remaining on his Marseille contract, the 29-year-old might be hard to sell so a loan could be more feasible.
West Ham want a player who can provide protection for the back four alongside Declan Rice. Strootman fits the bill but his injury record will bring back nightmares of another Jack Wilshere.
