West Ham United have put a move for defender Jakub Kiwior on ice after a special request from the selling club claims a new report.

It is no secret that West Ham are looking to sign not one but two centre-backs before the transfer window closes.

PSG and Germany defender Thilo Kehrer became West Ham’s sixth summer signing yesterday.

The shock fee behind that move looks like it could be one of the best pieces of business done by West Ham.

The Hammers have lost Nayef Aguerd to a long-term injury and may not see him, certainly at his best, until after the winter World Cup break.

David Moyes also reportedly has injury issues surrounding Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma (90min) while Angelo Ogbonna is still making his comeback from an ACL injury.

Throw in the fact Issa Diop has been sold to Fulham and it is easy to see why Moyes may want another centre half.

West Ham have been linked with the likes of Attila Szalai and Abdou Diallo among others.

Another defender West Ham have been linked with is Spezia star Jakub Kiwior.

The Poland international is on the Hammers’ radar and the 22-year-old can operate as a defensive midfielder as well.

Moyes has shown with some of his signings that he is looking for versatility with the likes of Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet and Kehrer able to play in multiple positions.

In 22 Serie A appearances last season, Kiwior averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game (Who Scored).

The Hammers reportedly submitted an official bid worth around £10m for the player this week.

But West Ham have put a move for defender Kiwior on ice after a special request from the selling club claims a new report.

According to TMW, West Ham did submit a bid of 12m Euros (£10m) and Spezia are willing to sell.

But only on the condition that they get to keep Kiwior on loan for the season.

“Left-handed central, Kiwior is a player much appreciated by Milan but above all by West Ham who presented an official offer,” TMW state.

“The London club has put 12 million euros (£10m) on the plate, but for now the negotiations have not taken off.

“Especially since La Spezia doesn’t want to lose it right away. The Ligurian club is in fact also willing to sell the boy, but on condition that he remains on loan for a season.

“At the moment, however, the hammers would like to take him to London immediately and this aspect has slowed the transfer.”
