West Ham United are allegedly prioritising a move to sign Arsenal centre-back William Saliba in the summer.
That’s according to a report from Jeunes Footeux who claims that the Hammers are prepared to pay round €30 million (£25.3 million) for the Arsenal defender.
West Ham boss David Moyes tried, and failed, to bring a top-class central defender to the London Stadium during the January transfer window.
Last month was incredibly frustrating for the Hammers fans. It must have been for David Moyes as well.
It can all be put right in the summer window though, if Moyes manages to bring a few top-class players to the London Stadium. And it seems as though the Scot could try and sign one of the best young Arsenal players Mikel Arteta has at his disposal at the Emirates.
West Ham prioritising move to sign William Saliba from Arsenal
Jeunes Footeux claims that the young Frenchman is the centre-back Moyes really, really wants.
The Hammers boss has allegedly made Saliba his number one priority signing in the summer and the East London outfit are prepared to pay £25.3 million in order to prise him away from the Emirates.
The Gunners owned ace has spent this season on loan with Marseille and has been absolutely exceptional for the Ligue 1 outfit.
Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the 20-year-old is a really imposing and physically commanding central defender.
In 21 Ligue 1 outings for Marseille so far this season, Saliba has averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game (Who Scored).
The young French centre-back is an incredible passer of the football as well and is very composed when in possession. He has made 82.8 passes on average per game for Marseille this season and has recorded an impressive completion rate of 93.5% (Who Scored).
Sky Sports have described Saliba as ‘exceptional’ this season. He will return to Arsenal from Marseille at the end of the season.
Whether Mikel Arteta has a plan in place to play the 20-year-old regularly next season at the Emirates is unclear.
Arteta has been non-committal in the past when asked whether Saliba has a future in north London (The Mirror). If the Spaniard isn’t entirely sold on the Frenchman’s ability then West Ham need to take advantage of that indecisiveness in the summer.
William Saliba is going to the very top. There is no doubt in my mind about that. And if West Ham manage to sign him for somewhere around £25 million in the summer, what an exceptional signing he would be for us.
