According to reports, West Ham could now face competition from Aston Villa for two of their reported targets this month.
The Hammers want to sign Olivier Giroud from Chelsea this month, according to the Sun.
And they have been linked with a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland (The Daily Mail).
The Hammers’ task of signing both players might have just got more complicated, however.
Whilst Giroud and Butland aren’t exactly the most glamorous of names, they would both be useful signings for West Ham.
So having extra competition to sign both of them is far from ideal.
Both West Ham and Villa are very big clubs. It could be argued that they are sleeping giants. So neither of them should have any problem attracting the Chelsea and Stoke stars.
So it might just come down to which club can offer both players the most regular first-team action.
One thing’s for sure, however, West Ham won’t have a clear run at either Giroud or Butland.
So if they really want both players, David Sullivan and David Gold had better be ready to spend some cash this month.
