According to a report from Calcio Mercato, Sami Khedira’s contract with Juventus will be terminated before it expires in June. And that may well interest West Ham boss David Moyes.

Calcio Mercato claimed back in April that the Hammers boss wanted to sign Khedira in the summer.

That obviously failed to materialise, however.

West Ham ended up bringing Said Benrahma, Craig Dawson and Valdimir Coufal to the London Stadium.

But the Hammers are fairly weak in central midfield. Should Declan Rice or Tomas Soucek suffer an injury, we could be in real trouble.

And with that in mind, perhaps signing Sami Khedira on a free transfer wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

He has obviously enjoyed a wonderfully successful career, with seven league titles, a Champions League and a World Cup to his name.

The problem is that Khedira, 33, doesn’t fit into the age profile of signings Moyes has repeatedly insisted that he wants to make.

The German is certainly not young and he clearly doesn’t have a point to prove to anyone. In addition to that, his injury record is far from impressive as well.

Perhaps signing the Juve ace on a short-term deal until the end of the season would make sense, however. The former Real Madrid ace would provide adequate cover for Rice and Soucek. And his experience and winning mentality would undoubtedly prove to be an asset for the Hammers.

The 33-year-old is on £130,000 per week, however, according to Silly Season.

So Khedira would surely have to lower his demands if West Ham are to have any chance of signing him once his contract is indeed terminated.
