West Ham must try to hijack Wolves' alleged move for Wallace

When speaking on the West Ham Way podcast on Thursday, August 1st, ExWHUemployee claimed that signing a new centre-back is Manuel Pellegrini’s priority this summer.

The Hammers have been linked with moves for Aaron Long, Gary Cahill and Guillermo Maripan.

As things stand, however, West Ham don’t actually seem to be close to signing anyone.

And with this in mind, the east London outfit should look to challenge Wolves for Lazio centre-back Wallace.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wolves want to sign the Brazilian. La Lazio Siamo Noi, meanwhile, claims that the 24-year-old will cost around £6.5 million.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Wallace is a powerful and commanding centre-back. And he is exactly the type of player West Ham need.

Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop are very good defenders, but there are question marks over whether Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid are good enough to deputise.

£6.5 million for someone with Wallace’s talent seems like an absolute snip. And he would undoubtedly help tighten up the Hammers’ fragile back-line.

And West Ham must do all they can to beat Wolves to his signature before next week’s transfer deadline.
