West Ham desperate for new striker to build on best start for 35 years

The Hammers have made their best start to a top flight season since 1986 and are right in the mix for the European places.

Bitter rivals Tottenham are eyeing a title challenge in what is the most wide open season for many years.

Spurs are flush for strikers with the likes of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son.

But Tottenham are still a more likely destination for brilliant Saints striker Ings over West Ham.

So says ExWHUemployee, who claims West Ham and Tottenham are both monitoring Ings’s situation with uncertainty over his future.

West Ham monitoring Ings’s uncertain Saints future but will likely miss out to bitter rivals Tottenham – insider

The Athletic reports Ings is refusing to sign a new deal as he wants a move to a club playing in the Champions League.

And Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted he may have to sell his star player to a ‘bigger club’ (Daily Mail).

While West Ham can dream of Champions League qualification after their brilliant first half of the season, Tottenham would be a safer bet for the striker should he move.

But whether he would get the game time at Spurs that he would at West Ham is highly debatable.

Coveted striker wants Champions League football and Spurs are the safer bet

Speaking about the situation, ExWHUemployee said West Ham are monitoring Ings’s situation.

“Whilst it is very unlikely to happen this window the club are monitoring Danny Ings’ situation,” ExWHUemployee said on his Patreon site.

“His contract is up in the summer of 2022 and whilst the Saints are prepared to offer him a bumper new contract to stay he is currently holding off on committing to that.

“Rivals Spurs appear to be very keen and could bid this window or wait themselves. Ings apparently wants Champions League football and therefore a move to Spurs does appeal to him.”
