West Ham United have missed the chance to sign another of David Moyes’s reported targets, Mario Gotze.

West Ham got ‘sizeable’ loan fee for Felipe Anderson claims insider

According to Sport Bild, The Evening Standard and the Express, West Ham boss Moyes was targeting free agent Gotze.

Moyes had Gotze on his list of transfers targets as he scoured the loan and free agent market in light of his lack of transfer funds (Claret & Hugh).

Although injury-prone, World Cup winner Gotze was one of the star names on the free transfer list this summer.

Hammers window pain

West Ham are short of players in many positions after allowing nine to leave and signing just one over the summer.

The Hammers sold Grady Diangana, released Jack Wilshere and shipped out Felipe Anderson leaving themselves short in the wide left/playmaker roles too.

According to The Evening Standard the Scot scouted Gotze during the restart of the Bundesliga season last term.

Given his past pedigree – and despite injury concerns – Gotze’s versatility in the midfield positions and availability on a free transfer were the factors attracting West Ham the most.

Moyes misses out… again

German footballing legend Michael Rummenigge even suggested Gotze could join West Ham in the summer, when writing his regular column for SPORTBUZZER.

But, as has been the case all too often, Moyes has missed out on yet another reported target.

That’s after Gotze agreed a move to Dutch side PSV instead.

The creative midfielder, 28, has signed a two-year deal with PSV.

And he says he turned down a number of offers from other clubs to make the move.

Same old story for Moyes as Gotze confirms he turned down numerous clubs

“I had a lot of offers this summer but I am a man of feeling and make my own decisions,” Gotze told the PSV website.

“I’m ready for a very different challenge and I am confident that this should be a very comfortable transition for me.

“I kept on training and got myself fit for the new adventure. I am looking forward to joining my new team mates for full training and preparing myself for the upcoming fixtures.”

Gotze joins a long list of players West Ham have missed out on. From Shane Duffy to Eberechi Eze.

From James Tarkowski to Wesley Fofana, Jonathan Tah and Fikayo Tomori to name but a few.

Reports this week suggest West Ham are focusing on a move for Brentford playmaker Said Benrahma (Daily Star).

But West Ham fans will believe it when they see him holding up the shirt.
