Martin Samuelsen is set to join Norwegian side FK Haugesund, according to reports emerging from Norway.

Haugesunds Avis reports that Samuelsen’s loan spell at VVV Venlo is set to be cut short and he will instead join Eliteserien side FK Haugesund.

Samuelsen, who was born in Haugesund, is expected to complete his move in the next few days.

This report does not specify whether Samuelsen will be leaving West Ham on another loan deal or whether it will be a permanent exit.

Samuelsen moved to England aged 14 when he joined Manchester City then completed a switch to West Ham in 2015.

After impressing in the youth team, the skilful attacking midfielder was handed his first-team debut by Slaven Bilic but he only went on to play once more.

West Ham fans have always been excited by Samuelsen’s potential but he has failed to step up to senior football.

Mixed success on loan

Samuelsen has been sent out on loan five times since he joined West Ham. His first stint was the most successful.

In the 2015/16 season, the Norway international joined Peterborough United, scoring twice in 20 games for the League One side.

The following year, he was given a Championship challenge but only managed four outings for Blackburn Rovers before he was recalled.

He went back to Peterborough for the rest of the season but his confidence was shot; he scored once in 11 games.

Last season, he had an unsuccessful stint at Burton Albion, playing nine times as the Brewers were relegated.

And this season, he has played just 10 times in the Eredivisie for VVV Venlo. The 21-year-old’s future at West Ham looks uncertain.
