West Ham have made a late window move for new striker target Marcos Leonardo after launching an opening bid, claim reports.

Scoring goals has been a major issue for West Ham all season long.

And the January transfer window is the last chance for the Hammers to try and fix that problem.

David Moyes has tried to do that by signing Danny Ings from Aston Villa but he was injured less than 24 hours after being unveiled by West Ham.

Reports continue to link West Ham with a move for Lorient striker Terem Moffi.

And now there is a new kid on the block for West Ham it seems and a potentially exciting one at that.

West Ham have made a late window move for new striker target Marcos Leonardo after launching an opening bid claim reports.

According to 90min and talkSPORT West Ham want Brazilian Leonardo – who has been compared to the likes of Sergio Aguero and Romario.

And 90min go as far as to claim that West Ham have seen an opening loan with option to buy offer for the Santos wonderkid rejected.

Many West Ham fans will be aware that head of recruitment Rob Newman spent time in Brazil forging connections with clubs earlier this season.

That resulted in West Ham signing defender Luizao – who has initially been placed in the development squad – this month.

The move for Leonardo comes as a result of Newman’s new connections in Brazil.

But West Ham will have to change their offer if they want to get the 19-year-old – who scored 21 goals in 57 appearances for Santos during a breakthrough 2022.

“West Ham have spent a significant amount of time scouting young talents in South America and sources have confirmed to 90min that a bid was previously lodged for 19-year-old Leonardo – a young forward well known to players of Football Manager,” 90min reports.

“The bid is understood to have been a loan deal with an option to buy, but Santos were not prepared to sanction the exit of a player many feel is destined for the very top of the game.”
