West Ham linked David Moyes January target Gerson has been fined after going AWOL at Marseille with speculation swirling over his future.

It has been reported that Gerson is hoping West Ham come in with a bid for him ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according Jeunes Footeux who claim the 25-year-old’s negotiations with Flamengo have collapsed and that the midfielder wants the Hammers to come in for him.

That is exactly what West Ham boss Moyes plans to do in the winter window, according to a report from Goal Brasil.

Moyes simply must add more dynamism to the team, especially alongside Declan Rice in the West Ham engine room.

Tomas Soucek has been struggling for some time and the system with Rice and Soucek as a midfield pair no longer functions as it once did.

Marseille signed the four-capped Brazil international midfielder from Flamengo – the club where West Ham record signing Lucas Paqueta made his name – just last summer around £17 million (Get Football News France).

Marseille are allegedly trying to move him on for a relative bargain of around €15 million (£13 million), according to L’Equipe.

Now West Ham linked Moyes January target Gerson has been fined after going AWOL at Marseille.

La Provence are reporting that Gerson is set to be fined by Marseille after the Brazilian midfielder failed to report for training.

West Ham return to training this week and Marseille – like many French clubs – are back preparing for domestic action to resume after the World Cup break.

However, one player that wasn’t present was Gerson.

“The midfielder was allowed to return to his native Brazil, whilst awaiting the completion of his move to Flamengo,” La Provence states.

“However, that move hasn’t been completed, and Gerson was therefore expected back in Marseille.

“Marseille are unhappy about his unauthorised absence and are therefore set to fine the player.”

The report confirms that the proposed return to Flamengo has hit a standstill. And that will encourage West Ham with one month to go until the window opens.
