West Ham, Tottenham and Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs linked with Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Lucas Paqueta appears keen on leaving West Ham in the January transfer window, and his departure would leave the club a midfielder shy.

Gallagher is liked by the London Stadium outfit, and interest has been retained despite their failure to sign him back in 2023.

Atletico Madrid prepared to sanction West Ham target Conor Gallagher’s sale

According to Give Me Sport journalist Ben Jacobs, Atletico Madrid are prepared to allow Gallagher to leave this month.

Since his move from Chelsea back in 2024, the 25-year-old has struggled to become a first-team regular under Diego Simeone.

It’s understood that Los Rojiblancos are looking for a fee in the region of £25million if they are to part ways with Gallagher, who has been linked with West Ham.

What was the point in this then? 🤔

They signed the England international from Chelsea for a £35.8million fee around 18 months ago, and are willing to make a slight loss by sanctioning his departure.

Spurs and Villa are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, per Football London, with a Premier League return looking highly likely in January.

Via X, Jacobs wrote: “Atletico Madrid prepared to sanction a Conor Gallagher sale for around £25m. Number has dropped slightly since summer, but as it stands Atleti still want permanence to any exit. Loan with obligation possible. Aston Villa one of the clubs to enquire, as revealed last week.”

Gary Lineker and Mauricio Pochettino have lauded Gallagher in the past

Back in 2023, when Gallagher was at Chelsea, Gary Lineker singled out the midfielder for praise.

He lauded the Englishman’s work rate but also his ability to contribute statistically at both ends of the pitch.

Lineker said: “Conor Gallagher continues to put in a good shift for them. His numbers are really good as well actually, if you look at them.”

Mauricio Pochettino also spent a year with Gallagher at Chelsea and shared an exemplary working relationship with him.

Speaking highly of his contributions to the team, the Argentine said: “I think he is a player with a great commitment to the team. He is always trying to compensate in every situation, in offensive and defensive situations. It’s priceless to have a player like him.”

Which side are the favourites to sign Gallagher?

While there are a number of teams in the race to sign Gallagher, Aston Villa appear to be the ones in pole position for him.

The likes of Spurs and West Ham are only linked with the 25-year-old, but Villa have actually made their move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage and he is expected to join on loan with an option to buy that will eventually become mandatory.
