It may be the first signs of transfer silly season but West Ham United have been linked with a move for Zlatan Ibbrahimovic.

The ageing superstar striker left Manchester United for LA Galaxy last summer.

And he showed his undoubted class by scoring 22 goals in 27 games in MLS.

Like many MLS stars Ibrahimovic has been linked with a short-term loan move back to Europe during the American off-season.

So when the Hammers emerged as a shock potential destination for the striker on Monday night it caused a stir.

Silly season in full swing?

The new MLS season does not start again until the beginning of March, so Ibrahimovic could join a club for the next month and a half to keep his fitness levels up.

A number of MLS players have come to the Premier League and Europe on loan during the off season in the past, including David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane.

So when West Ham Twitter ‘insider’ @ExWHUEmployee made mention of the potential transfer on social media it spiked huge interest.

Most fans have taken the Ibrahimovic rumours with a large pinch of salt.

But the Twitter source has vowed to ‘find out soon’ whether they have any truth in them.

‘Will find out soon’

“We tried to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic before!” the Twitter source said.

“He reckons he is in talks with a London club. Will find out soon.

“I don’t know if there is any truth at all at this point.”

It is being claimed online that Ibrahimovic has declared he is in talks with a ‘big London club over a cameo role’ in an interview on Italian radio. But this has yet to be confirmed or published by a credible source.

Pellegrini focused on very real transfer story

In the meantime Manuel Pellegrini is dealing with a very real transfer rumour involving star striker Marko Arnautovic.

The Hammers star has been the subject of a bid from a Chinese club thought to be Shanghai SIPG (Sky Sports).

Pellegrini has admitted the Austrian’s future is uncertain after Arnautovic’s brother and agent Danijel told talkSPORT he wants to leave for the Chinese Super League.

That saga could be a protracted one, though, as the Chinese transfer window does not close until the end of February.
