West Ham United are said to be considering the future of manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Concerned Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold are in discussions over whether to axe the Chilean.

West Ham have nosedived from third in the Premier League to the brink of the relegation zone in the last two and a half months.

Pellegrini’s future was already the subject of intense speculation.

West Ham in freefall under Pellegrini

A host of managers have been linked as potential replacements at West Ham.

A win at Chelsea last weekend suggested West Ham had turned a corner.

But all too familiar defeats to Wolves and Arsenal since then have seen Pellegrini once again installed as the favourite to be the next Premier League boss axed.

One manager who has been sacked is Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian once famously touted himself for the West Ham job when he was on the verge of the sack from Chelsea.

Hammers insider makes Ancelotti declaration

After being dumped by the Serie A side Ancelotti would not cost West Ham a fee were they to bring him in.

And that could well appeal to penny-pinching owners Sullivan and Gold.

In the wake of Ancelotti’s sacking reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee has made a declaration fans will find interesting.

Speaking on Twitter, ExWHUemployee said: “Now this would be an appointment.”

When some fans questioned the wisdom of appointing another elder statesman of the management game, the anonymous Twitter and radio personality added: “I think he is an exception to the rule.”

Owners must show ambition

The problem for West Ham is that managerless Arsenal are said to want to speak to Ancelotti.

The former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG manager’s previous comments and his availability should give Sullivan and Gold food for thought, though, if they truly are ambitious.

If the Italian was interested eight years ago, with the Hammers in the second tier and playing in front of a 35,000 capacity ground, what would he make of them now with the club packing out their 60,000 seater London Stadium home week in week out in the top flight?
