West Ham United suffered another injury blow as Ryan Fredericks limped out of the FA Cup win over Gillingham.

Fredericks pulled up with a hamstring injury in the second half and looked in some discomfort when he was substituted.

The injury means West Ham have just Pablo Zabaleta, who turns 35 next week, as back-up.

The Argentine scored his first goal for the Hammers in the win.

But he has showed this season he struggles to cope at Premier League level now.

Fredericks injury could leave West Ham short

With promising youngster Ben Johnson also injured, David Moyes will surely look to move for a new right-back in the January window.

Football Insider claimed West Ham want to sign four players in January, one of them a right-back.

And that was before the injury to Fredericks.

West Ham have been linked with a number of right-backs including Norwich City’s Max Aarons (talkSPORT).

Insider suggests West Ham should move for Clyne

But in the wake of Sunday night’s victory at the Priestfield, Hammers insider ExWHUemployee suggested Nathaniel Clyne could be the man West Ham turn to.

“I would imagine that this would possibly see us go for one,” ExWHUemployee said on Twitter.

“Someone like Clyne on loan although he is injury prone too but we shall see how long it is first I guess.”

Perfect solution for all parties?

This time last year Clyne joined Bournemouth on loan, making 15 appearances.

The powerful defender would undoubtedly be a solid signing for West Ham.

But as ExWHUemployee said, he too is injury-prone.

The 28-year-old has lost his place at Liverpool to superstar right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. But there is no shame in that.

A loan with the option to buy could suit all parties.

It would give Clyne some much-needed game time and West Ham would be able to gauge his fitness before deciding whether or not to sign him permanently in the summer.

He is already proven in the Premier League and is a London boy too.
