West Ham’s pursuit of Guillermo Maripan has been one of the main stories of this transfer window. The Hammers have been heavily linked with Maripan, as per various media reports.
And this chase could end positively for West Ham. Manuel Pellegrini has been given a boost as reports suggest West Ham have been given the green light to press ahead with this deal.
According to Spanish media outlet Marca, ‘Operación Salida‘ (Operation Exit) is underway at Deportivo Alaves. The mid-table Spanish club are ready to sell some players, including Maripan.
Alaves have launched ‘Operation Exit’. Firstly, Maripan could leave with West Ham in pole position. The Irons have reportedly offered an improved bid of €15m (around £13m) for the 25-year-old.
However, Alaves are holding out for West Ham to meet Maripan’s €25m (roughly £22m) release clause. Despite being £9m short at the moment, West Ham will hope to drive down his price by playing on Alaves’ desire to sell him and after striking a cooperative relationship following the Lucas Perez sale.
Alongside Maripan, Jony Rodriguez is another player heading for the exit door. After scoring four goals and providing 11 assists, the 27-year-old midfielder could be heading to Lazio.
Guillermo Maripan at West Ham
If Maripan joins West Ham, he would add strength in depth to the defensive ranks in East London. The 6ft 4in centre-back would be competing with Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna for the starting spots.
The Chile international could also team up with compatriot Pellegrini. And he would join the growing South American contingent at West Ham, alongside Balbuena, Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Sanchez, Felipe Anderson and more.
