West Ham are hoping to sign Jack Butland on loan with an option to buy him, according to reliable insider EXWHUEmployee.
Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM (Wednesday 20th November), EXWHUEmployee told listeners that Butland is a target. West Ham want to sign a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window and Butland is an option.
West Ham will explore the option of signing Butland on an initial loan from Stoke City. The Championship club are right down the bottom of the league and might be tempted in by a significant loan fee and the promise of a major transfer fee in the summer.
Jack Butland: Good or bad signing?
Butland would undoubtedly be keen on the move. West Ham would be an exciting project for the 9-cap England international, who is hoping to get back into the squad. He has dropped below Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton in the pecking order.
A move to the Premier League would help the 26-year-old’s ambition so some Hammers fans want him in to replace Roberto. But his form has been questionable this season and some West Ham fans are concerned.
Here are some tweets about West Ham wanting Butland.
Butland has been poor ever since Stoke got relegated. 2nd choice goalie at a championship club, no thanks

If he’s available take him! Good young(ish) keeper, major improvement on Roberto aswell!

I sincerely hope this is false. Butland has been awful in the championship this season.

A no-brainer that we need a capable no.2 keeper as a matter of priority, to replace this clown Roberto. Butland may have his critics, but (a bit like Roberto to some extent) he has had a non-existent defence in front of him.Trott+Annang should be adequate long term cover for Fab.

Upgrade on Roberto if I say so myself so I wouldn’t have a problem with that.

I’d take him. I know it hasn’t worked out for him yet but learning from Fab for a couple years could help him fulfill his potential! Plus he is only 26, not even close to his peak!
