It is no secret that the 24-year-old has regressed badly over the past 12 months or so.
Diop joined West Ham from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £25 million (The Express).
The towering Frenchman really impressed during his debut campaign.
He showcased his raw ability, athletic prowess and incredible ability to win both aerial and ground duals against top class strikers.
Diop drew huge praise from one of the Premier league’s legendary coaches.
Jose Mourinho openly expressed his admiration for the Frenchman when he was in charge at Manchester United, as quoted by the Standard:
“He had a fantastic match. Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop – a monster who dominated in the duels.”
Diop clearly has huge potential, but he has hardly played this season for West Ham.
A move away from the London Stadium on loan may well be exactly what the Frenchman needs.
At his age he clearly needs to be playing regularly.
