According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham are interested in signing Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira this month, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset have backed up those claims today too, suggesting that the east London outfit have actually submitted a £11.8 million bid for the 21-year-old – one that was subsequently rejected by the Serie A outfit.
West Ham are desperate to bolster their central midfield options this month.
They are too reliant on Declan Rice and Mark Noble, and David Moyes has little to choose from in reserve.
Vieira could be a decent option for the Hammers. He has experience of playing in England, having played 71 games for Leeds United in the Championship.
The England under-21 international is a tough competitor. He is a tenacious tackler and has real athleticism – two things West Ham desperately crave in the middle of the park.
He has averaged 1.5 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per game in the league this season (Who Scored).
The youngster also possesses an impressive pass completion rate of 82.6% (Who Scored).
Judging by today’s report from Sport Mediaset, however, the Hammer’s won’t be able to pick the Sampdoria starlet up on the cheap.
Some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the rumours suggesting that Vieira is a target for the east London club:
