According to a report from Football Insider, Winston Reid is closing in on a loan switch to MLS side Nashville SC having jetted out to America to undergo a medical, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
The MLS transfer window doesn’t officially open until February 12th, so the east Londoners did not have to complete the deal by last Friday’s deadline in England.
The 31-year-old has not played for the Hammers since March 2018.
He is a popular player in east London. Reid joined West Ham in 2010 for around £5 million (Eurosport).
The 25-capped New Zealand international has gone on to make 223 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers. During that time he racked up 10 goals and 10 assists (Transfermarkt).
In 166 Premier League games for West Ham, Reid has made 242 tackles, 348 interceptions and 1,301 clearances (premierleague.com). He has always been a great leader for the football club and an impressive organiser at the back.
How they could do with the Kiwi in his prime now. Injuries have put paid to his hopes of having any part to play this season, however.
The 31-year-old is still under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2023, so maybe a loan move away to a slower-paced league until the summer is just what he needs to prove that he still has the fitness and quality needed to succeed at the London Stadium.
