West Ham have been offered the chance to sign Yannick Carrasco this month, according to a report from the Daily Mail, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
The Belgian left Atletico Madrid for Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang in February 2018. And he has recorded impressive numbers over the past two years. In 52 outings, he has 24 goals and 17 assists to his name.
Carrasco has had his fair share of disciplinary problems throughout his career, however, as covered by the Express and Spanish media outlet Marca.
In truth, the 41-capped Belgium international doesn’t really seem like the kind of player who West Ham need, considering their current situation.
He is an explosive, exciting talent, however, so it’s a tough one to weigh up.
The Daily Mail suggest that Carrasco’s £180,000-a-week wages would be a problem for the Hammers. And it could be argued that the east London outfit really should be targeting hard-working players with some experience of playing Premier League football.
The former Atleti ace’s talent cannot be ignored, however. He has proven throughout his career that he can produce something special, albeit not on a consistent enough basis.
He could be a saviour for Hammers or a total disaster. On his day, the 26-year-old is special, but when he’s not, he is a very expensive passenger. That is the risk they will be taking.
And some West Ham fans had a mixed reaction to the speculation linking Carrasco with a move to east London…
