West Ham are interested in signing Chicago Fire ace Nicolas Gaitan on a free transfer in January, according to the Guardian, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
The 31-year-old spent time with Benfica and Atletico Madrid earlier on in his career, before moving to China to join Dalian Yifang.
He then moved to the MLS in March of this year.
Judging by those moves, it would be fair to suggest that Gaitan is already on the downward curve of his career.
And West Ham need to be wary of signing him. Even if it is on a free transfer.
The 19-capped Argentina international was a top player in his day, but he might just struggle to adapt to the intense nature of the Premier League, having been used to the MLS and the Chinese Super League over the past 18 months.
Gaitan is an attacking midfielder who can also play on either wing, and West Ham really do not need another attack-minded player.
