According to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, West Ham have enquired about signing Benfica hitman Haris Seferović, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.

The Hammers desperately need more firepower in the final third.

Sebastien Haller has flopped since joining for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer (BBC), with just six goals to his name in a West Ham shirt thus far.

The Hammers have scored just 27 goals in 23 Premier League games this season – the seventh lowest tally in the entire division.

And Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims that the east London outfit are looking to address that issue by potentially moving for Seferović.

The Portuguese media outlet claims that Benfica will only considering selling the Swiss hitman for around €30 million (£25.3 million), however.

And that seems like an awful lot of money for someone who is far from prolific.

The 27-year-old has scored only six goals in 27 outings this season. And his career record of 87 goals in 341 games (Transfermarkt) leaves a lot to be desired for a striker.

Seferović also has no experience of English football, and would surely take quite some time to adjust to the frenetic pace of the Premier league.

Some West Ham fans took to Twitter, and seemed totally non-plussed about the possibility of signing the Benfica forward…
