West Ham could sign Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland for £20 million in January, according to the Daily Mail, and some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.

The 26-year-old ace, capped nine times by England, was one of the most highly sought after stoppers a few years back.

But with Stoke’s recent struggles, his stock has fallen.

Butland is still a top class goalkeeper though, and he would be a useful addition for West Ham.

Whether he is worth £20 million, however, is another matter entirely.

One thing’s for sure, he would provide much stiffer competition for Lukasz Fabianski than either Roberto or David Martin do.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Butland commands his area with authority and he is a really reassuring presence for his defenders.

He also has Premier League experience, which is absolutely crucial for West Ham’s next goalkeeper signing.
