West Ham fans fume at links with Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne

Right-back is an area where West Ham must look to strengthen this month.

Ryan Fredericks is allegedly out for up to seven weeks after injuring his hamstring against Gillingham on Sunday. And with Pablo Zabaleta set to turn 35 soon, he can no way be relied upon to play every week for up to two months.

One player the Hammers are allegedly keen on signing is Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Guardian.

The 28-year-old has lost his place in the first-team at Anfield to Trent Alexander-Arnold, and after a loan spell with Bournemouth during the second half of last season, Goal claimed in the summer that Liverpool would be willing to sell the defender for around £15 million.

His value has surely dropped since then, however.

Now, Clyne would definitely be an upgrade on Zabaleta, and would surely provide stiff competition for Fredericks when the former Fulham man returns from injury.

The problem is that Clyne has fitness concerns of his own, and is currently on his way back from a serious ACL injury.

The last thing that West Ham need is to sign another injury prone full-back.

And some Hammers fans made that point on Twitter in reaction to the news that the Liverpool man could be a target for the east London outfit…
