Some West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in response to Mark Noble’s comments on Jarrod Bowen’s performances in training today.
The Hammers skipper told the club’s official website today just how impressed he has been with the 23-year-old’s commitment in training:
“Even in training, I could see that he gets after the ball as well, and I love seeing that. It doesn’t happen anywhere near as much as it used to, apart from at the top teams, so you don’t get accustomed to seeing it any longer so, when I saw him doing it, I thought ‘Yes! He wants it!’ and it was nice to see.”
Surely that should be the absolute bare minimum, however.
Perhaps West Ham are struggling because the squad are not putting in maximum effort in the build up to games.
This is all conjecture of course. But Noble’s comments on Bowen are troubling and strange at the same time.
The Hammers are in desperate need of more characters and leaders. They need to show more fight, passion and spirit.
Too much onus is put on Noble’s shoulders to provide this. The other players need to step up to the plate. Because if they don’t, relegation will undoubtedly be awaiting David Moyes’s side this season.
The comments from Noble on Bowen really are worrying. West Ham have looked like a completely disjointed unit this season. Their star names have not performed, but the most concerning aspect about their campaign thus far is that there has been more than one occasion when the Hammers players have quite simply not given 100%.
And judging by the skipper’s comments, that might just stem from the training sessions.
