West Ham’s late loan bid for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi looks to have failed, according to reports.
The Hammers had agreed a deal with Chelsea to land Batshuayi on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky Sports News.
But The Guardian’s live deadline day blog [3:12PM] reports that this deal is now off. The report adds that Batshuayi’s only remaining option is Real Betis.
About Michy Batshuayi
Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille in summer 2016 but has only scored 19 goals since then. He has had to settle for a back-up role for most of his time at Chelsea.
The 25-year-old left Stamford Bridge on loan last January and scored nine times in 14 games for Borussia Dortmund.
But this season, he has been disappointing on loan at Valencia. In 15 games in La Liga, the Belgium international has found the net just once.
Chelsea were willing to cut his loan spell short and send him elsewhere, agreeing a deal for him to join West Ham.
But Batshuayi looks set to stay at Valencia or move to Real Betis after the Hammers move fell through. West Ham could instead turn to his Chelsea team-mate Olivier Giroud, according to The Mirror.
