Boca Juniors have entered the race for West Ham target Gary Medel, according to reports in Turkey.
As per Fotomac, Besiktas midfielder Medel could join West Ham but he is tempted by a return to Argentinian top division side Boca Juniors.
West Ham’s interest in Medel dates back to early January (Sky Sports News) and there have been strong rumours linking the Hammers with a summer swoop.
Medel appears destined for the exit door at Besiktas but whether he will join West Ham or Boca Juniors remains to be seen.
What could Gary Medel add at West Ham?
Manuel Pellegrini is a big fan of fellow Chilean Medel. The 118-cap Chile international appeals to Pellegrini because he can play in a variety of positions.
The diminutive player operates predominantly as a holding midfielder but he can also fill in at centre-back or at right-back – three areas where West Ham need strength in depth.
Medel has one year of experience in the Premier League; he was relegated with Cardiff City in the 2013/14 season.
But he is renowned for his tenacity and his tough-tackling approach could be useful for the Irons, especially if he is a back-up player.
The main doubt with the 31-year-old, though, is his age. With West Ham fans wanting to sign younger players, Medel does not fit the bill and other options could be pursued.
