West Ham eyeing £15.4m swoop for Joakim Maehle after Moyes missed out on him in 2020

West Ham United are allegedly ‘definitely’ interested in signing impressive Atalanta right-back Joakim Maehle this summer.

That’s according to Daily Star football journalist Paul Brown who told Give Me Sport that the Hammers are certainly keen to bring the Denmark international to the London Stadium this summer.

At first glance, it seems as though West Ham manager David Moyes is well-covered in the right-back department at the London Stadium.

The Hammers boss has Vladimir Coufal, Ben Johnson and even young Harrison Ashby to call upon.

Look closer though and it could be argued that Moyes does need to strengthen his right-back ranks before the start of next season.

Coufal will be 30 in August whilst Johnson seems to be better when playing at left-back or centre-back. Meanwhile, Ashby, talented as he undoubtedly is, is totally unproven at the very highest level.

And Moyes seems to have a plan in mind to strengthen the right side of his defence…

West Ham eyeing move to sign Joakim Maehle

The Denmark international joined Atalanta from Genk in January 2021.

The Italian side actually beat the Hammers to the right-back’s signature according to a report from Football Italia.

Paul Brown who told Give Me Sport that the 25-year-old Dane is firmly on West Ham’s radar in the summer transfer window:

“Maehle, I think, is someone who definitely interests West Ham. He’s been someone they looked at before; he’s only gone on to bigger and better things since then. I think he too would be a great signing if they could pull that one off.”

We think that Maehle would be a very strong addition to the Hammers’ ranks this summer.

The 25-year-old is quick, powerful and built perfectly for the robust nature of Premier League football.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel recently described his international teammate as a ‘machine’ (Goal).

He could be available for around £15.4 million this summer according to Il Giorno.

And if West Ham sign Joakim Maehle for that kind of money this summer we think it would be very good business for the club.
