West Ham fans gutted young striker can’t fill in for Antonio

That’s according to West Ham insiders Claret & Hugh who have links to the club’s owners.

Fredericks has struggled to establish himself in the right-back position at West Ham.

The 27-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer from Fulham in the summer of 2018.

Speedster Fredericks dividing opinion at West Ham

But the speedy right-back has failed to impress on a consistent basis. And he has also struggled with injuries.

He certainly hasn’t lived up to expectations since swapping west London for east London 22 months ago.

Fredericks has divided opinion, though. Some of his performances since football restarted after lockdown have impressed.

And many believe that he could thrive in David Moyes’s new wingback formation where he will be less exposed defensively.

Pace is vital for any Premier League team and Fredericks is one of the quickest players in the top flight.

Insiders claim right-back could be sold in January

The arrival of the impressive Vladimir Coufal – and his instantaneous adaptation to life in the Premier League – has seen Fredericks consigned to the bench.

There were rumours he would be sold in the summer window, but the former Tottenham trainee remained at West Ham.

Now, th0ugh, insiders Claret & Hugh claim he will be sold if West Ham receive an offer that meets the club’s valuation in January.

“(Ben) Johnson was one of two extra players on the private plane to Liverpool at the weekend despite not being selected for the 18-man-squad,” Claret & Hugh report.

‘His days could be numbered’

“David Moyes opted to have Ryan Fredericks on the bench but his days may be numbered as he could be gone in January if his valuation is met.”

The Hammers website makes it clear that Moyes sees Ben Johnson as his long-term back-up for Coufal.

According to the site, it is felt the youngster will also benefit from the wingback formation.

And there is good reason for that. Johnson actually started life in the West Ham academy as a striker.
