West Ham will be desperate to avoid relegation this season, so they can attract top quality players to the club next season.
The Hammers are currently outside the relegation zone, but only because of a superior goal difference to those in an around them in the table.
David Moyes’s side did show enough against Southampton, however, to give their fans belief that they will be just fine this season.
And if West Ham do stay up, it is clear to see that their strategy will be to bring in young and hungry players with something to prove in the Premier League.
The Sun claimed a few days ago that the Hammers are keen to sign Brentford hitman Ollie Watkins.
Whilst the Sun also suggest that Queens Park Rangers ace Eberechi Eze is a target for West Ham too.
Watkins, 24, is one of the Championship’s best players, and has scored 22 goals in 36 league outings for the Bees so far this season (Who Scored).
Meanwhile, Eze – an attacking midfielder who can also play on either wing, has racked up 11 goals and seven assists in 36 Championship games for QPR (Who Scored).
The 21-year-old is clearly a real talent, and his pace and power is exactly what West Ham need in the final third. There is too much pressure on Michail Antonio to provide them with that, week-in, week-out.
So Eze’s arrival would be hugely important.
The prospect of Watkins lining up through the middle flanked by Jarrod Bowen and Antonio and supported by Eze just in behind them should be an extremely tantalising one for Hammers fans.
And that’s not even taking Sebastien Haller into consideration!
The future could be very bright for West Ham. But they must retain their Premier League status this season in order to fulfil their full potential as a football club next term.
