West Ham United boss David Moyes could finally get his man in the next transfer window.
According to a new report from The Independent, Moyes made Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera his prime midfield target in January.
But Herrera, one of the standout stars for Mexico at the last World Cup, only signed for Atletico last summer and was keen to try and establish himself.

Moyes wanted Herrera before club signed Soucek – report
In the end West Ham co-owner David Sullivan struck a loan deal for Tomas Soucek, a player Moyes admitted he had never seen play live (The Sun).
The Czech Republic star has been a hit in his limited appearances before football was shutdown.
West Ham have a deal in place to sign Soucek permanently at the end of the season.
And now according to The Independent, Mexico international Herrera could arrive in the summer and be paired with Soucek in the heart of an energetic new-look midfield.

Hammers back in for energetic Mexico star this summer
It comes as Atletico face up to the consequences of the global health crisis in the midst of having spent a quarter of a billion pounds on their new stadium.
“The Independent understands the 30-year-old was one of West Ham’s primary targets in the January transfer window, but Herrera opted to remain in Madrid until the end of the season to see how his first-team opportunities developed,” The Independent reports.
“David Moyes’s side have since signed midfielder Tomas Soucek on an initial loan deal, with the option to make the move permanent this summer.
‘Herrera available for cut-price fee’
“However, the Hammers have retained an interest in Herrera and could renew their approach in the event of any major departures.
“Herrera, who joined Atletico from Porto on a free transfer last summer, had established himself in Diego Simeone’s side, playing 19 consecutive games earlier this season, before falling out of favour.
“He would likely be available for a cut-price fee due to the club’s precarious financial position, with a Champions League place far from guaranteed even if La Liga does resume.”
