Left-back is certainly an area where Hammers boss David Moyes will be keen to strengthen.

Aaron Cresswell will be 32 before the turn of the year.

Meanwhile, Arthur Masuaku is better suited to the left wing-back role and Ben Johnson needs to develop exclusively as a right-back now.

West Ham eyeing Pervis Estupinan swoop

According to Il Mattino, the Hammers are leading the race to sign the 23-year-old left-back.

That is because we are allegedly prepared to pay more money for the Ecuadorian than Napoli are.

In 25 La Liga outings for Villarreal last season, Estupinan averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game.

The South American is a strong, tenacious tackling full-back. He has plenty of pace as well.

Estupinan seems custom built for Premier League football.

The La Liga outfit signed him for £15 million from Watford last summer (Sky Sports).

Quite how much Villarreal are prepared to sell him for this summer remains to be seen. If West Ham can pick him up for a decent fee though, he would be a very smart addition to Moyes’s ranks.
