Manchester United are said to be lining up one of the biggest deals of the next transfer window and West Ham United could be the surprise beneficiaries.

West Ham’s relegation battle and Manchester United’s push for the Champions League places looked set to go down to the wire.

But both have been put on hold after football was shut down due to the global health crisis.

As a result of the disruption to the European game, FIFA has confirmed the next transfer window will be moved and possibly extended (BBC Sport).

Hammers and Red Devils linked with transfers as season is paused

West Ham and Man United have both been linked with a host of players during lockdown.

Indeed the Hammers and Red Devils have even been linked with moves for each other’s players.

West Ham reportedly want  Phil Jones (The Mirror) and Alexis Sanchez (Daily Star). While Manchester United are said to be keen on Declan Rice (United in Focus).

And it could be one the biggest moves of the next window which benefits West Ham as Man United reportedly close in on England star Jadon Sancho.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Madridista and talkSPORT, Sancho will choose between Manchester United and Real Madrid with both clubs offering £100million to take the skilful attacker from Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho in, West Ham target Sanchez out?

Sancho is seen as a direct replacement for Old Trafford flop and West Ham target Sanchez.

So if Sancho chooses Manchester, that could well help push the Chilean towards West Ham, possibly in another loan move or cut price deal.

Former West Ham and Man United star Paul Ince backed Sanchez to move to West Ham at the weekend (Paddy Power).

The Sancho deal could also benefit West Ham in respect of Rice’s future.

No Red Devils move for Rice?

According to the Financial Times Manchester United are ‘just as vulnerable’ as other clubs in terms of the financial impact of the pandemic.

That may mean limited spending in the next window. And if they use up £100m signing Sancho, they will not be able to afford another £70million for Rice.

Fred has started to come into his own as has Scott McTominay while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also spent big money on Bruno Fernandes in the midfield department.

So West Ham boss David Moyes will be watching the Sancho situation with interest.
