West Ham are pondering whether to bolster their youth team options with the signing of free agent Ayomide Faniyan.

According to All Nigeria Soccer, Faniyan has been training with West Ham for the past couple of months. After eight weeks working with West Ham, a decision on Faniyan is set to be made in the coming weeks.

West Ham are weighing up whether to offer Faniyan a deal to join the club’s youth team on a free transfer.

Who is Ayomide Faniyan?

Faniyan has been a free agent since September 2018, when he left Reading. Faniyan and Reading agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent and he has been searching for a new club ever since.

In November last year, All Nigeria Soccer broke the news that Faniyan had started training with the Hammers’ youth team.

The Nigeria-born forward was described in that report as “a strong, quick and powerful striker that is also comfortable playing as a winger”.

West Ham have been running the rule over the 18-year-old for the past eight weeks as he tries to earn himself a contract at The London Stadium.

Faniyan would probably be one for the academy sides initially, rather than an immediate first-team signing.

West Ham are not bound by the constraints of the transfer window with this one, either. Because the teenager is a free agent, he can join West Ham after the window slams shut this Thursday.
