West Ham United are said to be closing in on a bargain £25m move for Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher and that’s much more like it.

West Ham have been making up for lost time since selling Declan Rice to Arsenal at the weekend.

The club’s transfer activity has gone into overdrive with bids and interest reported in a plethora of players as the Hammers look to replace their departed skipper.

Chelsea fans know what that’s like with their own scattergun approach to transfers since the arrival of Todd Boehly.

The Blues have been selling off and releasing players in the summer transfer window too as Mauricio Pochettino trims down a ridiculously bloated squad.

And now Chelsea could be about to let another star go after David Moyes made a new West Ham move overnight.

West Ham closing in on bargain £25m move for Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher and that’s much more like it.

Multiple sources – including Sky Sports Germany and Football Insider – claim West Ham are in ‘advanced negotiations to sign longstanding target Gallagher.

Reports suggest West Ham will pay between £25-30m for the combative England star.

And compared to some of the fees being bandied around for reported West Ham targets over the weekend – including a ludicrous £80m for Joao Palhinha – it would be a steal.

Chelsea are raising funds to offset against their unprecedented spending of the last year. And it seems West Ham are taking advantage.

The reports claim West Ham are the first to make a formal offer for Gallagher and that dialogue is advancing between the Hammers and Chelsea.

Moyes is a big fan of Gallagher and tried to sign him last summer and a move was in the works.

So much so the player’s camp sought the advice of England boss Gareth Southgate. With Thomas Tuchel promising Gallagher he would be considered for the first team, the 23-year-old decided to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place.

But things have not worked out for him or the Blues and now West Ham could benefit by getting a young, hungry, talented player for a reasonable price.

And that is a much better transfer strategy than going for older players like Palhinha for huge money.
