West Ham United are reportedly now close to agreeing a deal to sign versatile Burnley star Maxwel Cornet this summer.

That’s according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg who claims that the Hammers are closing in on the 25-year-old but still face competition from Everton and Newcastle for his signature.

West Ham manager David Moyes is allegedly very keen to bring the 29-capped Ivory Coast international to the London Stadium this summer (Daily Mail).

It has been suggested that if the Hammers want to sign Cornet, we will need to pay his £17.5 million release clause in one lump sum, or be forced to pay a fee closer to £25 million if we want to do it in instalments.

Signing a top-class left sided player who can operate in both the wing-back and left wing positions is arguably the main priority for Moyes between now and the the end of the transfer window.

And it seems as though the Scot is closing in on getting his man…

West Ham close to agreeing Maxwel Cornet deal

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reckon that despite competition from Everton and Newcastle, West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign the 25-year-old Burnley star.

What a signing Cornet would be for the Hammers!

Cornet joined Burnley from Lyon in the summer of 2021 for around £13 million (BBC).

He has been a huge hit at Turf Moor, bagging nine goals and two assists in 29 games for the Clarets (Transfermarkt).

We believe that the Burnley speed demon would be a sensational signing for West Ham.

He’s one of the quickest forwards in the Premier League and can operate on either wing or at left-back.

Cornet can even play as a striker if need be!

The 29-capped Ivory Coast international is aggressive, direct and loves running at opposing defenders.

West Ham have struggled without any real pace in our team over the past year or so. Michail Antonio has definitely lost half a yard.

The Premier League is built on power and pace nowadays. The Burnley star has been described as an ‘explosive player’ by ESPN pundit Ale Moreno.

And if West Ham are indeed closing in on a deal to sign Maxwel Cornet, it might not be too long before we see him lining up in the famous Claret and Blue for the Hammers.
