West Ham are interested in signing Maxi Gomez, according to reports in the Spanish media.
Cadena Ser’s Radio Vigo (via Football Espana) reports that West Ham have travelled to Spain to thrash out a deal for Celta Vigo star Gomez.
West Ham are lining Gomez up as a potential replacement for China-linked Marko Arnautovic.
Three West Ham strikers linked with exits
The Daily Mail reports that Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez could all leave West Ham this month.
Chicharito is wanted by Valencia on loan, although West Ham have rejected that bid. And Perez is on the radar of Real Betis, although they are holding out for more money.
Arnautovic is linked with a switch to China with this report claiming a £45m offer is expected from an unnamed club.
With three potential outgoings up front, it is no surprise to see West Ham frantically scouring the market for a new striker.
Who is Maxi Gomez?
Despite Celta Vigo’s troubles, Gomez has been the standout player for the La Liga side this season.
Celta Vigo sit 17th in the Spanish top tier, two points off relegation. Despite this, Gomez has still struck nine goals and added five assists in 17 La Liga matches this season.
Last season was his first in Europe after moving from Defensor Sporting and he scored 17 goals in 36 league games.
The 9-cap Uruguay international is highly rated in Spain and West Ham are hoping to snap him up.
The Hammers have sent representatives to Vigo to negotiate a deal, with Gomez reportedly available if his €50m (roughly £45m) release clause is met.
