The door could now be wide open for West Ham United to sign a top-class centre-back in January, with a report claiming Bayern Munich could drop out of the race.

West Ham manager David Moyes needs to sign an elite centre-back in the January transfer window in my opinion, for a few reasons.

Firstly, Hammers defender Nayef Aguerd will be heading out to AFCON with Morocco in the new year, and secondly Konstantinos Mavropanos is still yet to prove himself.

Thirdly, Kurt Zouma continues to struggle with his fitness problems and finally, Angelo Ogbonna will be 36 in May.

I do feel like we need someone to come in to the club who is physically suited to playuing Premier League football.

Someone who would be absolutely perfect for us is Jonathan Tah, and he recently admitted that he could be open to leaving Bayer Leverkusen at some point.

Now West Ham have to act, with reports claiming that Bayern Munich have exited the race to sign him…

West Ham have a great chance to sign elite centre-back

Fussball Transfers claim that Bayern have now dropped their interest in signing Hammers target Tah in January.

And with that in mind, West Ham now must go full steam ahead and try to bring the 27-year-old Leverkusen defender to the Premier League.

What an unbelievable signing Tah would be for the Hammers.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, he is an absolute giant and is incredibly strong in the air. The German possesses an impressive physique and is ideally suited to Premier League football.

In 33 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen last season, Tah averaged 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game. He also won an average of 1.7 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

One problem we will have is convincing Tah to move to the London Stadium, considering how Leverkusen are flying right now under Xabi Alonso.

If there’s any way of making it happen though, West Ham mustn’t hesitate to sign the German centre-back in January. He’d take us to a new level entirely defensively as far as I’m concerned.
