West Ham United desperately need a new striker in the January window but one of their longstanding targets is now being eyed by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

‘Free Benrahma’ hashtag growing as Moyes faces serious questions over £30m man’s future

Michail Antonio’s persistent injury problems and Sebastien Haller’s struggles have left West Ham toothless up front.

The same could be said of Wolves, who have struggled for goals ever since Raul Jimenez fractured his skull.

Wolves muscle in on West Ham’s Jovic loan interest

With no timeframe put on Jimenez’s return, Wolves – like West Ham – are said to be in the market for a striker when the winter window opens.

The problem for West Ham is that they want their longstanding target Luka Jovic.

That’s according to a new report from Spanish outlet Diario AS.

West Ham have been linked with Jovic for some time.

The Hammers are reportedly keen to reunite the deadly strike partnership between Haller and Jovic which served their former club Eintracht Frankfurt so well.

Hammers reportedly wanted Haller and Jovic reunion

Like Haller at West Ham, the Serbian has struggled since making a big money move to Real Madrid.

West Ham were said to be seriously eyeing up a January swoop to land Jovic on an initial loan, according to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central.

But now Diario AS, Football Espana, The Athletic and The Sun are all reporting that Wolves have muscled in to try and sign Jovic on loan as Jimenez’s replacement.

Jovic is not wanted by Madrid, who are said to be actively seeking a club to take him off their hands.

He is a class striker who could bring the best out of West Ham’s record £45m investment in Haller.

If West Ham owners have any ambition they cannot stand by and watch Wolves sign Jovic

An initial loan with an option to buy when football finances return to normal would have been ideal for West Ham.

So Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold cannot stand by and watch Wolves sign their target.

West Ham sit 10th in the Premier League table, one point and one place better off than Wolves – who the Hammers thrashed 4-0 earlier this season.

But it will say everything about the ambition of the club’s owners if Wolves beat West Ham to the loan signing of Jovic.

West Ham have also been linked with Josh King (Claret & Hugh). But the forward’s record is not a patch on Jovic’s.

And King turns 29 next month, six years older than Jovic.
