West Ham United’s striker crisis could force David Moyes to sign a free agent.

Manager comments on West Ham move for his star striker

That’s according to reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee.

Moyes refused to sign a striker ‘for the sake of it’ during the winter window.

That’s despite selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax for a fee in excess of £20 million.

West Ham fans warned club over inevitable striker crisis

Hammers fans and pundits warned the club they would be desperately light in the centre-forward department.

Michail Antonio is West Ham’s only recognised senior striker. And his injury record made signing a forward so crucial last month.

But Moyes elected not to spend the Haller money and wait until the summer to get ‘the right player’.

One week after the window closed and the inevitable has happened. Antonio is an injury concern yet again and his “back-up” Andriy Yarmolenko is also injured. Meanwhile young striker Mipo Odubeko looked well out of his depth in the FA Cup defeat at Man United.

Moyes decision has left Hammers woefully short up front

Moyes also elected to allow striker Oladapo Afolayan to leave on loan to Bolton.

West Ham’s striker crisis was painfully predictable.

And ExWHUemployee claims the situation could now force Moyes to look at signing a free agent striker.

“Yarmolenko has a feared knee ligament injury which could potentially keep him out for a number of games or the season depending on the extent,” ExWHUemployee said on his Patreon site.

Insider claims Moyes could now look to sign free agent striker

“If you put concerns over Antonio’s hamstrings again where he is a doubt for the Sheffield United game, then the injury situation with Masuaku also thrown in is looking a little bleak.

“The situation may (although this was not what Moyes or the club wanted) force the club to look at the free transfer market.”

West Ham will not be spoilt for choice when it comes to available free agent strikers.

The most attractive proposition would be Diego Costa – who is out of contract having left Atletico Madrid.

Costa has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham before Moyes ruled out a striker signing (beIN Sports).

Other options could be former Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa and Daniel Sturridge.
