West Ham’s board has revealed the truth about their pursuit of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen after holding talks with Premier League rivals Wolves.

West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both staring relegation from the Premier League in the face.

The Hammers will effectively be seven points adrift in the relegation zone if Forest get a draw at Fulham on Monday night.

West Ham’s forthcoming run of fixtures – which includes playing Wolves – gives Nuno Espirito Santo’s side hope of avoiding the dreaded drop.

Wolves are propping up the table on a meagre two points and are on course to be the worst Premier League side in history.

As a result relegation is all but sealed for the Molineux outfit, with the club now facing up to life in the Championship next season.

That means Rob Edwards’ side making some realistic decisions in the January transfer window.

Strand Larsen will be the best striker West Ham have signed in years. He will save them from relegation… 😍

Not even spending big can save Wolves now and even if they did, attracting players would be a tough ask.

Therefore offloading stars to raise funds in preparedness for falling off the Premier League gravy train makes more sense for the Midlands side.

That’s what has attracted West Ham to the potential availability of black and gold striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It is the worst kept secret in the Premier League that West Ham are looking to sign at least one – if not two – strikers in the January window.

The Hammers made a grave mistake going into the season with ageing duo, Callum Wilson and Niclas Fullkrug, as their only senior striker options.

Fullkrug has been an unmitigated disaster since arriving from Dortmund for £27m.

The German is completely out of his depth in the Premier League.

But the warning signs were there for the Hammers when Tim Steidten was doing the deal as Fullkrug lacks the pace and mobility needed for the English top flight and has a lengthy history of serious injuries.

All of that came home to roost as he spent more time in the treatment room during an 18-month spell, which resulted in a pathetic three goals.

Hammers must get Fullkrug replacement right to survive

Fullkrug is on his way to Milan on loan and West Ham cannot afford to get his replacement wrong.

Their Premier League lives quite literally depend on it.

The Hammers have been linked with a host of forwards with the club and Nuno prioritising a striker who has already adapted to the rigours of the English game.

The Wolves fans WARNED us about Max Kilman… 🐺

Who is the worst pound-for-pound signing in West Ham's history? He's surely up there…

Now the West Ham board has revealed the outcome of Jorgen Strand Larsen talks with Wolves.

Athletic journalist David Ornstein broke news of West Ham’s interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 6ft 4in Norwegian star Strand Larsen at the weekend.

Ornstein claimed West Ham’s enquiry for Strand Larsen is for a permanent transfer, but he stated ‘the situation is at an early stage and he also has other suitors’.

Hammers News also understands a loan with obligation to buy at a set price if West Ham stay up was also mooted.

Now the truth behind the talks between the Irons and Wolves for the 25-year-old has been revealed.

Speculation has been rife over how much West Ham would have to pay to sign the Wolves forward.

Some reports have claimed around £23m would get a deal done while others have stated it would take an eye-watering £50m.

Hammers News approached the top spokesman for West Ham’s board about the Strand Larsen rumours ahead of the window opening in 10 days.

The response was extremely interesting.

And it suggests the club’s interest won’t last long or that West Ham are trying to force Wolves to lower their demands.

“They (Wolves) want far too much for a player who has scored just one Premier League goal this season,” the spokesman for West Ham’s owners exclusively told Hammers News.

West Ham will now presumably move on to other targets unless Wolves start to live in the real world.
