The East London outfit have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old Saints midfielder for quite some time now – most recently just last month.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium with Declan Rice set to join Arsenal imminently.

And it seems as though the Scot has his eyes on one player in particular…

According to the Daily Mail, the Hammers will imminently make a £20 million offer for the 10-capped England international – that’s half what Southampton are demanding for him.

£40 million just seems like way too much money to me.

Don’t get me wrong, the 28-year-old is a very good player and has been described as the ‘Premier League’s most underrated player’ by Michael Richards (Daily Echo). His free-kick and corner taking technique has been described as ‘unreal’ (Give Me Sport).

However, I think we need to be more ambitious in our summer recruitment.I feel like we need to be signing someone with far more physicality to strengthen our engine room.

I just can’t see the point in bringing Tim Steidten in and then signing someone who will soon be 29 and is a well-known Premier League name.

Maybe if West Ham could pick James Ward-Prowse up for £25-30 million, it would be a deal worth pursuing for us.

If Southampton continue to demand £40 million for him though, we should just walk away and move on to other targets.
