With the January transfer window approaching, Manuel Pellegrini could look to sign a few new players.
West Ham are currently 13th in the Premier League but Pellegrini will be eyeing a top half finish.
And judging by some recent reports, West Ham could be about to move for a new central defender.
West Ham in hunt for Llorente
According to reports in Spain, West Ham are one of four Premier League clubs pursuing a deal for Diego Llorente.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Sociedad star Llorente is a target for West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Liverpool.
West Ham recently sent scouts to watch the centre-back in action against Levante and could move in January.
Who is Diego Llorente?
Llorente is a 6ft 1in centre-half with good pedigree in Spain.
Having come up through the academy at Real Madrid, he left the Spanish giants to join Real Sociedad in 2017.
The 25-year-old is a regular at Real Sociedad and has even earned himself some senior international recognition.
The Spain international has two caps for his country, testament to his success at centre-half for Real Sociedad.
He also knows where the net is; Llorente has scored seven goals in 39 games for his club.
West Ham have a fairly settled centre-back partnership in Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop.
While neither player is the finished product, they have adapted well to life in the Premier League and you expect the clean sheets to come soon.
But with Angelo Ogbonna’s future in the balance, Pellegrini might look to add depth to his options.
Llorente is one of the most promising centre-backs in Spain and he would surely be pushing Balbuena and Diop for a starting spot in the West Ham line-up.
