West Ham and Newcastle United both made bids for Roma striker Edin Dzeko recently, according to reports in Italy.
Tutto Mercato Web reports that Roma have rejected bids from West Ham and Newcastle as their €10m offers were under the Italian club’s valuation.
West Ham were hoping to sign Dzeko for €10m (just over £8.5m) but Roma are demanding €25m, which is around £21.5m.
Is Edin Dzeko worth £21.5m?
The Italian media keeps running stories linking Dzeko with a move to West Ham. This suggests that there is a genuine interest and it is clear to see why.
Dzeko and Manuel Pellegrini worked together at Manchester City and won the Premier League title. They could reunite at West Ham.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international is a well-known striker who has always scored goals wherever he has gone.
This season, he has scored seven goals in Serie A and 12 in all competitions. The 33-year-old has scored 85 goals for Roma, as well as netting 72 times for Man City and 85 times for Wolfsburg.
But he is now coming towards the end of his career and Roma are demanding a hefty fee for a player of Dzeko’s age. West Ham are better off looking elsewhere at cheaper and younger alternatives.
