West Ham and Newcastle chasing Erkan Eyibil who has been dubbed the 'new Mesut Ozil' - report

West Ham have been named as one of the clubs chasing young midfielder Erkan Eyibil, according to Turkish Football.

Newcastle United are also in the multi-club hunt for Eyibil, who could become available in a bargain deal. The youngster only has a year remaining on his contract at Mainz and this has alerted several clubs across Europe.

While the youngster stalls on a new deal with the Bundesliga club, West Ham and Newcastle have been scouting him and monitoring his contract situation.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Eyibil is a midfielder, described by this report as a playmaker in the mould of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. And given his Turkish background and German upbringing, as well as his playing style, Eyibil has inevitably been dubbed the “New Mesut Ozil”.

The 17-year-old is yet to make his first-team breakthrough but is rated highly by Mainz and has been scouted by the Hammers.

Eyibil is a left-footed player who has scored nine and assisted four in 16 matches for Mainz’s under-19 team in the A-Junioren Bundesliga Sud/Sudwest, according to transfermarkt.

The Germany under-18 starlet scored 27 goals and provided 27 assists in 47 matches for Mainz’s under-17 side prior to his promotion (transfermarkt).

West Ham could continue monitoring the talented teenager when Germany under-18s face France during the international break.
