West Ham still want Celta Vigo hitman Maxi Gomez, that much is clear. Should a move for the Uruguayan fail, however, they might switch their attention to Wolfsburg hitman Wout Weghorst, according to a report from Football.London.
And the Dutchman could be a far better option than Gomez.
The Hammers need a big powerful presence up front. And Weghorst would be perfect for the east London outfit.
The 26-year-old was in fine form for Wolsburg in Germany last season. He racked up 18 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.
And he seems to be tailor made for the robust, intense nature of the Premier League.
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, according to Wikipedia, he would provide West Ham with a great focal point from which to build their attacking play through.
Playing alongside the likes of Manu Lanzini, Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals, Weghorst would surely flourish at the London Stadium.
The giant striker joined Wolsburg in the summer of 2018 for around €10.5m (£9.5 million), according to BuliNews.
Quite how much the Bundesliga outfit would expect for his signature this summer, however, is unclear.
West Ham should test their resolve nonetheless, especially if they are successful in moving Marko Arnautovic on.
Weghorst might just be a real hit at West Ham, and considering his goal record and stature, he could be an even better option than Maxi Gomez for Manuel Pellegrini.
